At Smurfit Kappa Wellpappenwerk Kreuzau, color waste water is produced during the production and processing of corrugated cardboard. The main components of this waste water from the flexo area are both dissolved and undissolved substances. The quality and quantity of these substances prevents further processing of the waste water into glue and indirect discharge into the public sewage system.

All the waste water produced was treated with a classic splitting plant. Due to the old age of the system, only a semi-automatic mode of operation was possible. Due to poor filter cake quality, the operating effort on the chamber filter press was particularly high. For this reason, the decision was made to purchase a new wastewater treatment plant.

The decision and your reasons

In preliminary tests, it was found that, in addition to the classic process, electrolysis is also very suitable for treating the flexo printing waste water. However, since a decanter was chosen for the filtration, only treatment with flocculation chemicals came into question, as this method can produce a larger floc. Due to the centrifuge / decanter operation, the daily operating effort is reduced to a minimum.
